Château Saint-Maur

Located in the southernmost part of Côtes de Provence, Château Saint-Maur is nestled between the foothills of the stunning Massif des Maures mountain range and the Mediterranean Sea. Just 10km from Saint-Tropez, this beautiful part of the world lends itself to the production of the iconic, pale pink, Provencal rosé that has become a British summertime staple.

Built in the 19th century, Château Saint-Maur’s winemaking roots run deep within Provence. Since 1955, the estate has upheld the elite status of Cru Classé, alongside a small list of just 22 other estates. A designation which is granted upon the evaluation of an estate’s history, winemaking, vineyard quality and reputation.

In 2011, having successfully owned a winery in the Douro for 25 years, Roger Zannier set his sights on Château Saint-Maur. Recognising the undeniable quality of the terroir, he purchased the estate with the intent to produce top quality, regional wines of distinction.

Roger Zannier appointed his son-in-law, Marc Monrose, to manage the 100 hectare estate. Upon acquisition, they commissioned the construction of a brand new, state-of-the-art-winery. Their focus is Rosé, making up 85% of their total production. They work with an array of varieties such as Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvedre, Syrah, Rolle, Cabernet Sauvignon and Tibouren. Both in the vineyard and in the winery, they treat their grapes with the upmost care and respect. Every plot is individually handled to ensure each variety is expressed to its best potential.

Today, this modern winery thrives, with new talent and passion for superior quality wines. Extremely well made, we were impressed with these wines for their precision, focus, purity of fruit and value for money at every level.

“Shimmering orange-pink. Powerful aromas of fresh red berries, blood orange and white peach, with a hint of lavender in the background. Offers palate-coating raspberry, bitter cherry and tangerine flavours and a touch of honey that adds a sweetening flourish. Smooth and expansive on the persistent finish, which repeats the pit fruit note” – L’Excellence Cru Classé, Vinous 2019

We are delighted to represent Château Saint-Maur in the UK and we look forward to many a summer’s evening to come, enjoying a glass of their rosé!

(Saint-M 2020) "A top of the range rosé from a vineyard that nestles in the oak tree-covered hillsides of Cogolin just 10km from St Tropez. A blend of grenache, tibouren (an indigenous Provençal grape), cinsault, and syrah, it’s the product of the ambition of French industrialist Roger Zannier who took up the challenge of making Château Saint-Maur into one of Provence’s finest vineyards. His son-in-law, Marc Monrose, was entrusted with that task and if this superb rosé is anything to go by, he appears to have achieved that aim. Fresh and appealing with notes of citrus fruit, white peach and apricot, it’s the ideal drink for the end of a long summer's day." 10 Best Cotes de Provence rose wines to sip whatever the weather, John Clarke, The Independent (May 2020)

(Saint-M 2020) "Offering scents of passion fruit, redcurrants, lime zest and perhaps a hint of tomato leaf, it's complex and not overly fruity on the nose, setting the stage for a medium-bodied palate that's stony and restrained. It finishes crisp, dry and refreshing." 90 points, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate (July 2021)
