Syrah 'Marne di Saladino'

  • Centopassi
  • Sicilia, Italy

Method & Production

The Syrah grapes for this delicious red are cultivated in the 6.24 hectare Saladino vineyard. The vineyard is mostly south-facing and is located only a few kilometres south of Palermo in Contrada Saladino in Monreale at about 550 metres above sea level. The area benefits from diverse diurnal temperatures and the soil is predominantly marl. The vines are espalier trained and are pruned using the simple Guyot method. The grapes are handpicked at the end of September and fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature of 24-26 °C. The wine is then aged for 12 months in a mixture of new and old French oak Taransaud barrels.

Tasting notes

On the nose, this Syrah is invitingly intense, presenting beautiful, fresh aromas of just-picked fruit. Marasca cherry and sweet spice notes are particularly apparent, along with a touch of tobacco and a little balsamic. The palate is round, soft and fresh with mature and velvety tannins and a lovely long finish.
