The south-facing Alte Setzen vineyard is found right next to the Huber winery. As the name suggests ('Alte' means 'Old in Austrian), this is one of the oldest and longest cared for vineyards in the area. The 60 year old Grüner Veltliner vines grow in a terrain where limestone provides the base soil upon which Loess (fine wind-blown silt), has accumulated for thousands of years. This soil distinguishes itself through its ability to store water and nutrients throughout the growing season, which provides the thriving Grüner Veltliner with its particular brand of spiciness and full-bodied flavour. Only the best physiologically ripe grapes are selected before being crushed, with skin contact for 12 hours, pressed, fermented in stainless steel and then split with 50% aged for 8 months in traditional 2500 litre acacia wood casks and 50% in stainless steel. A little batonage is carried out to give the wine a little more textural quality.

This beautifully intense Grüner Veltliner offers a wide spectrum of aromas on the nose ranging from delicate herbal spice to tobacco to ripe green and stone fruit aromas and a twist of minerality. Like all of Markus' wines, a refreshing driving acidity balances the ripe fruit and slightly rounded mouthfeel on the palate. The finish is long and defiantly moreish!
Outstanding with asian cuisine, even the more spicy and powerful dishes.
