Adanti

Adanti is one of the historic estates of the Montefalco area in Umbria and among the very first producers to champion Sagrantino, the region’s most iconic grape. Alongside Sagrantino, Montefalco is also celebrated for the more approachable Montefalco Rosso—a blend led by Sangiovese, with smaller proportions of Sagrantino, Barbera, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Now run by Daniela Adanti and her daughter Stella, the estate stretches across 30 hectares of vineyards in the hilly zones of Arquata and Colcimino. This landscape has been renowned since ancient times for the quality of its olive oil and wines, a heritage the Adanti family remains deeply committed to preserving. For many years, the winery has also been entirely self-sufficient in energy, powered by solar panels—reflecting a long-standing commitment to sustainability and respect for the land.

The focus at Adanti is firmly on red wines from local and indigenous varieties. The range includes Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG in both dry and Passito styles, Montefalco Rosso DOC, and the Red Arquata Umbria IGT. While Sangiovese and Sagrantino are at the heart of production, small parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera, Merlot and Grechetto add versatility and nuance to the estate’s portfolio.

“Just about any wine you’ll taste from Adanti, be it the whites, the classically dry reds, or the sweet Passito, will be at the top of the quality heap. I have said and written this before, and nothing has happened to since change my mind: simply put, for my money and my taste buds, Adanti is one of the three best estates in all Montefalco and their wines are not just gems but benchmarks of the denomination. In fact, if you really pinned my back to the wall and forced me to pick one Montefalco estate only, the wines of which I’d want on a desert island, well…it’s this one. Montefalco wines just don’t get any better than Adanti’s, and their range of wines is, at least for my money, the best of the denomination.” Ian D’Agata, Terroir Sense (June 2022)

“The 2019 Montefalco Rosso opens with a pretty blend of dusty rose, dried black cherries and cloves. It mixes ultra-ripe red berry fruits with sweet herbal tones and juicy acidity to create a seductive display on the palate. This finishes spicy and long with a tinge of edgy tannins and autumnal spices.” 91 points, Eric Guido (August 2024)
