Celler Prior Pons

Prior Pons has a history of viticulture dating back to the 18th century, though originally production was exclusively set aside for the family cellar. Located in La Vilella Alta, the estate is at the very centre of the DOQ Priorat.


In 2002,  the cellar released its first wines to the market, mostly produced using grapes from old vines planted in the 1940s and 50s, which grow between 300 and 400 meters above sea level. They are blended with wine derived from 100 year-old vines. Prior Pons’ goal is to express Priorat’s unique personality, making regionally-specific wines that can only be elaborated from its terroir.


Wine production is limited with only 1,800 bottles produced each vintage from just 10 hectares of vines, which enables them to just two wines. Prior Pons is the first, made from the best grapes of the cellar, and  the second is Planets de Prior Pons, which combines grapes from both old and young vines. Both wines offer the best characteristics of the area: colour, freshness, potency, structure, fruit, minerality, spice, and balance.
